03-12-13:
We are proud to announce that Mary Tobias Gonzalez ’64, and her sister Rose Tobias Elrod ’62, were recently named Jeff Davis Outstanding Alumni. For the past seven years, they have worked tirelessly and have given much of their time to two organizations, Jeff Davis Hispanic Alumni and Jeff Davis Alumni and Friends. Both organizations play prominent roles in raising funds for student scholarships and activities that support the academics and athletics. Mary currently holds office in both organizations; is treasurer of the Class of ’64 Reunion Committee; and maintains the ‘64 website. Rose chairs the scholarship program for the JD Hispanic Alumni and also co-chairs the Slater Martin Golf Tournament sponsored by the JD Alumni and Friends. Together, both organizations have raised over $800,000 for the school and are working diligently to reach the $1 million mark. We are proud of Mary and Rose and congratulate them for their commitment to our alma mater.

Much progress was accomplished with a committee chosen to begin visiting different venues to consider for the Big 5-O celebration next year. More information will be provided as it becomes available. Plans for the 49th Mini Reunion are also underway and details will be posted soon.

Progress on the "50th Class Reunion Commemorative Book" (aka "the book") is on schedule with 103 biographies received; 42 forms from our class vets; and 32 ads sold. More information coming in the future regarding the book.

We were notified today that our classmate, Earnest Wren, passed away on June 30, 2012. Ernest's daughter, Henrietta Jones, responded to the invitation to our 48th reunion mailed to Earnest. Henrietta had this to say about her father, "He talked often of his high school days with very fond memories. I know he would want the "ole" gang to hoop and holler and just have a great big time. Way to go "CLASS OF 1964".
