Our good friend and classmate, Charles (Charlie) Carpenter passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016.  Funeral arrangements are pending and as soon as this information becomes available, we will update this notice.    Please keep Charlie's wife Joann and his family in your thoughts and prayers.




With sadness we report the death of one our teachers, Mrs. La Velle Rothwell Shelton, who was also a JD grad from the class of 1956.  There will be an open house tonight hosted by her daughter Cheryl Richards at 1611 Lake Wilderness Lane, Kingwood, 77345.  Funeral services are pending for next Tuesday, May 10.  As soon as more information becomes available, it will be posted here as well as on Facebook pages that Linda Lacy Vestal maintains.



With sadness we report the death of our classmate, Joe Almendarez, on March 23 in Ft Worth.  Joe was buried in Ft Worth on Saturday, March 26 and his obituary can be found by clicking here.  Our condolences to Joe's family.

With sadness we report the death of our classmate, Ralph Chavarria who passed away Thursday, October 29 at the age of 70.  The family will receive visitors for a Visitation on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm at the chapel of Felix H. Morales Funeral Home, with an evening service to begin at 7:00pm.  Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Felix H. Our condolences to our classmate, Carol Ygnacio Measom '64, on the loss of her brother Jerry Ygnacio who passed away on his 76th birthday on October 26, 2015. All services will be held at St. Matthews the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9915 Hollister Dr., Houston, TX 77040 713-466-4030. Viewing: Thursday, October 29, 2015 5pm – 9pm, with rosary at 7:30 pm.  Mass on Friday, October 30 at 10:00am.  Burial following at 12noon at Forest Park Westheimer.

As you are all probably aware, there are discussions within HISD regarding the change of all HISD schools that are named after historical Confederate figures.  Jefferson Davis HS included.  On behalf of the JD Class of '64, the reunion committee has taken a stand AGAINST a name change of our school and a letter was sent to  the president of the HISD school board on July 10 from the committee and signed by Arnie Hinojosa.  To view the letter click here.  We urge all Jeff Davis alumni who feel strongly against a name change to write to the school board and voice your opinion.  You will see in our letter to the school board a reference made to a letter published on June 24th. in the Houston Chronicle editorial section from State Senator Rodney Ellis calling for name changes.  To view his remarks go to

With sadness we report the death of two of our '64 classmates, Jerry Castleberry and Randy Pace.  May they rest in peace. 

 Jerry Wayne Castleberry passed away at his home in Porter, TX on June 25, 2015 at the age 70 yrs.  Jerry was laid to rest on June 30 in Nacogdoches, TX.  Our condolences to Jerry's wife, Helen Quinn Castleberry and family.  Jerry's obituary can be found at




Randy Pace passed away on June 29 after being involved in a motorcycle accident.  The only information we have at this time is that his daughter was taking him to Dallas for cremation.  If we receive an update, it will be added to this posting.

The reunion committee has received several emails with "thank you's" and kudos regarding our 50th reunion.  A new blog has been created under "WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY" and all messages will be posted there.  Anyone who would like to make a comment is welcomed to do so. 



Linda Lacy Vestal has set up two FaceBook accounts.  One is dedicated to capturing information, comments, photos, etc., for the JD CL '64 and the second account for posting notices of ALL JD graduates who have passed away.  Both accounts are open to the public so be sure to visit them.  Linda has already posted photos from our 50th reunion celebration that took place June 20-22, 2014.
